The National Textile University (NTU) Library, in collaboration with PASTIC Sub Center, Faisalabad, celebrated World Book and Copyright Day on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. The event, held at 10:00 AM on the university campus, featured an Awareness Walk and a series of thought-provoking speeches highlighting the enduring importance of books in the modern era.
Prof. Dr. Zafar Javed, Dean of the School of Arts & Design, addressed the gathering by underlining the significance of the day as an ideal opportunity for parents, educators, and students to come together in celebration of literature and the timeless joy of reading. “In today’s increasingly digital age,” he remarked, “there’s no better time than now to reconnect with books.”
Mr. Muhammad Husnain, Additional Director of PASTIC Sub Center Faisalabad, spoke on the transformative impact of reading. He emphasized the need to commit to reading more and exploring the works of legendary authors who have shaped society through their ideas. “Reading broadens our minds, fills us with knowledge, and opens doors to countless possibilities,” he added.
Mr. Mushtaq Ahmad, Senior Librarian at NTU, stated that the event aimed to pay tribute to books and their authors, encouraging individuals—especially youth—to rediscover the joy of reading. “This initiative is a celebration of literature and a call to embrace its value in building a peaceful, knowledgeable, and harmonious society,” he shared. The theme of this year’s event was “Read Your Way” (جس طرح آپ پڑھنا چاہتے ہیں), emphasizing personal engagement with reading.
Observed globally on April 23, World Book and Copyright Day highlights the unique power of books and supports UNESCO’s vision of inclusive, participatory, and knowledge-based societies.
The event drew wide participation from NTU’s community and beyond. Attendees included Dr. Danish Mahmood Baitab, Director Student Affairs; Dr. Sajjad Ahmad Baig, Dean, Faisalabad Business School; Dr. Rashid Masood; Mr. Salman Saif, Registrar; Mr. Atta Muhammad, University Auditor; Muhammad Aslam, Deputy Director (P&D); Imran Ali Gill, Sports Officer;Mr. Muhamamd Shahzad Arshad, System Administrator; Syed Jamil Abbas Shah, Sr. Supervisor IT; and Miss Farkhanda Rashid, Principal of Millat Model Girls School, Faisalabad. A large number of faculty members, staff, students, and schoolchildren from a private school actively took part in the celebrations and the awareness walk.
NTU’s observance of the day served as a reminder of the profound value books hold in shaping minds, inspiring creativity, and promoting lifelong learning.
