Department of Yarn Manufacturing

The textile industry plays an important role for the economical development of Pakistan and its sub-sector the Textile Spinning Industry occupies an important position in this regard. It is one of the most organized sub-sectors of textile industry which has been the result of extremely hard work of the textile graduates of this institution who have specialized in the field of yarn manufacturing. In the University the Department of Yarn Manufacturing is also one of the oldest and largest departments. The students opting for specialization in yarn manufacturing are given comprehensive knowledge about textile fibers and the techniques to convert them into yarn with the best possible available parameters and at most economical rates. The practical training in the laboratory of the department is supplemented by the frequent visits to the industrial units where the students get a fair good chance to see the latest trends in the spinning machinery set-ups and become familiar with the working environment of the industry. The department also offers physical testing facilities for fiber, yarn and fabric. Apart from teaching assignments, the faculty provides consultancy services and carries out research and development projects for the industry.

Pre-Spinning Operations Blow Room Line Toyoda Ohara Hergeth Blow Room Opening and cleaning of raw fibers is the main objective of blow room. Output of blowroom is Lap.

  Carding Machines Howa CM 80 Card High speed carding machine used to convert lap or tuft to a very fine and smooth form

    Platts Card Slow speed carding machine used for different blended laps.

    NCTE Mini Card Mini carding machine is a joint research project of NTU students.

  Drawing Machines Toyoda Ohara DYH-500 Draw Frame This machine is used for drawing and drafting of infeed sliver cans. Its objective is attenuation and parallelization of sliver strands.

    Rieter RSB D 40 Draw Frame This machine is used for precise measuring and electronic open loop leveling device for short, medium and long-term sliver weight Control. This machine is used for drawing and drafting of infeed sliver cans. Drawing RSB D40 is high productive and latest machine.

  Combing Toyoda Hara CM-100 Comber Machine Short fibers are removed during combing process. Combed sliver is smoother than drawn sliver.14-24 % short fibers could be removed during combing.

  Simplex Machines Platts MS 2 Simplex Machine This machine is used to understand the basic concept of roving, its drafting and twisting. Identification of draft and twist via gearing diagrams could be done at this machine.

    Toyoda FL 16 Roving Machine High production simplex machine used for different sampling of yarn manufacturing.

Spinning Operations Ring Machines Rieter Compact K-44 Ring Frame Compact Ring spinning machine is used to manufacture compact yarn. Ring spun yarn has retained its position as the system that produces the strongest, finest, softest and most lustrous yarn. K-44 considers as latest compact spinning machine in modern age.

    Howa UA-330 G Ring Frame Howa ring frame to identify basic concepts of ring spinning machines. Drafting, twisting and doffing mechanisms are studied by the students.

    Toyoda RY-5 Ring Frame This machine is used to understand the basic concept of roving, its drafting and twisting. Identification of draft and twist via gearing diagrams could be done at this machine.

    Pakistani RB-18 Ring Frame Pakistani ring frame is available for student to identify basic concepts of ring spinning machines. Drafting, twisting and doffing mechanisms are studied by the students.

    Platts MR-3 Ring To study gearing mechanism and basic principal this machine is used.

Grinding Tools   Peter Wolters Cots Grinding Machine For buffing or grinding of top roll of ring machine this machine is available.

Post Spinning Operations Auto Cone Murata Mach coner7/2, Auto Cone Machine Auto cone Link Coner with yarn clearer (Uster Quantum 2) and splicer is available for students and commercial samples.

    Murata Mach Coner with knotter A Mach Coner (magazine type machine) with knotter is used for knotting of yarns to build a larger package size for weaving.

    Classimate Winder A classimate winder is used to make more smaller yarn packages for weaving and knitting. Baby cones can be made by this Winder.

Air Compressors   Sanco Compressor Sanco compressor is available observe compressed air generation, its filtration and then usage at machines

    Toshiba Compressor compressor is available to observe compressed air generation, its filtration and usage at machines

Advance Spinning Lab:-

2 Auto Coro Rotor Spinning A 4-headed rotor spinning is available for sampling and study

3 Sample Spinner (Laycock Textile) We have a facility to manufacture yarn with 50 gram raw material of different fibers yarn count ranges 6-20/1 Ne on Laycock Textile(Sample Spinning), a latest sample machine is available to process cotton and synthetic fibers.

4 Edera Mini-Ring A mini ring(Non-compact) of 4 spindles is available for study and research. Students can make different advancement for trial running on this machine that could be further applied to larger machines.

5 Directwist (2C6 &2D6) (2019) A doubling and twisting machine is available in YMD Lab. It has provision of plying and cabling number of yarns. Spindle 2C6 is used for normal yarns however for high performance yarns another spindle 2D6 is also available

6 Core spun machine (2019) Six spindle machine for core spun yarns is available in advance spinning lab. It has provision to manufacture dual core yarn and dual elastomer yarn. It is a high speed and fully automatic machine.

7 Toyoda Ring RY-5 (Lycra attachment) Ring Ry-5 machine is now equipped with Pinter Lycra attachment (single core). It is available for to students to study and research and to manufacture lycra endorsed non-compact yarns.
