This course is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the polymer composite, including its constituents, design, fabrication, testing, and evaluation. The course will cover the basic nature of different polymers and their comparative properties, classification of reinforcement materials and their processing techniques, and various fabrication techniques of polymeric composites such as Open Molding, Resin Infusion, Extrusion, Thermoforming, Compression molding, etc. The fundamental concepts and classification of composite materials, various issues, challenges, and opportunities in the processing of polymer composites will also be explained.  The structure and property relationships of a composite help to suggest the potential applications of a composite material. The mechanical testing of composites including tensile, flexural, impact, and shear will be covered in it. The performance against dynamic/cyclic loading will also be a part of the mechanical testing techniques. Test methods used to determine the thermal performance of the composite materials including dynamic mechanical behavior, thermal expansion, glass transition, the heat of reaction, mass loss, thermal conductivity, and thermomechanical analyses will also be explained to the participants.
