Biography

Dr. Muhammad Tahir Hussain is Professor of Chemistry and Dean Academics at National Textile University Faisalabad Pakistan. He earned his doctorate in Chemistry from the Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad. His main areas of research include: Synthesis and evaluation of dyes and pigments, textile auxiliaries; Syntheses of biologically active naturally and non-naturally occurring isocoumarins and 3,4-dihydroisocoumarins; Organic synthesis of heterocyclic compounds as precursors for dyes and synthesis of polymers functionalized with organic dyes.

He participated/presented papers in national and international conferences/symposia as well as produced more than 83 research papers in journals of international repute.  He has been awarded research grant of 4.2 million from the Higher Education Commission for the research project “Preparation of some bifunctional finishes for developing functional textiles” and has won various awards including Research Productivity Award from the Pakistan Council for Science and Technology, and Best University Teacher Award from the Higher Education Commission Pakistan.

Previously, he has served at various positions at National Textile University including Dean of Faculty of Science, Head of Applied Sciences Department and Controller of Examinations. He has taught various courses at undergraduate and postgraduate levels including Analytical Techniques, Aromatic Chemistry, Dyestuff Chemistry, Textile Auxiliaries, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Chemical Lab. Methods. He has served for a semester in Wuhan Textile University, Wuhan, China to teach and guide research to their graduate students in 2016 on their invitation. Dr. Tahir is member of the Chemical Society of Pakistan and Pakistan Institute of Chemists.
