Biography

Dr. Mumtaz completed his undergraduate in "Textile Engineering (weaving)" and Master's in "Advanced Materials Engineering", both from NTU, Fsd. After graduation, he was selected for HEC-fully funded international scholarship for MS-PhD. For the purpose, he moved to South Korea, where he completed his MS-PhD in "Organic and Nano-Engineering" in Feb 2021. Soon after PhD, Dr. Mumtaz was selected as an Assistant professor in Textile Engineering Department. During his studies, he was strongly engaged with the commercialization of research to industrial scale, where he worked on carpet weaving loom design (pakistan carpet association), waterproof breathable textiles (K2 Textiles, Korea), and cold sizing materials (Quetta Textile mills, Lahore). 


Focus of Dr. Mumtaz's research is on extreme low dimensional nano-materials, i.e. quantum dots or virtual atoms. Through his research on these emerging materials, the upper limit of synaptic devices, photovoltaics, and energy storage devices was pushed to existing extremes. Based on outstanding research performance, he was awarded 1st position in FICS-NUST-2016 competition under the counter-terrorism category. Similarly, his research on auxetic textiles and on-loom stitched seamless garments won the second position in DICE-IET and DICE-Textiles, respectively. He was also awarded with best researcher award by Hanyang University (QS rank 146), for the highest number of publications (14) in high impact Q1 journals, during a single academic year. He holds an SCI-impact factor of 200, with 28 journal publications and numerous conference papers. His outstanding research publication is featured on the front cover of "Advanced functional materials, IF: 18". Currently, he is working on smart fabric architectures offering numerous functionalities, integrated through modified weaving and nano-coatings.
