Textile Composites are one of the most value-added products of textile with applications in sports, automotive, aerospace, and structural products. The current global market of the textile composite is worth 100 billion USD in comparison to 135 billion USD for conventional technical textiles. The progress in the domain of textile composites has been revolutionary and its market size is expected to reach 130 billion USD by 2024. In Pakistan, 120 to 150 small and medium-sized organizations related to composites are operating but their export is only worth 7.5 Million USD.
Keeping in view the need of time, National Textile University has established the National Center for Composite Materials to channelize all the efforts in the best interest of Pakistan composite industry. The establishment of this center will largely help the composite industry in Pakistan by developing skills of indigenous manpower in this discipline. The National Center for Composite Materials (NCCM) was established in April 2018. The main objectives of this center include:
- Conduct Basic and Applied Research
- Educate Scientists and Engineers
- Protype development and testing facilities
- Transfer of Technology to Industry
- Startups/Business Incubation
The center has one of the biggest pools of highly qualified faculty members trained locally/internationally in the domain of composite materials.
Director’s Message
Since the emergence of highly value added, high performance technical textiles, National Textile University is striving to help not only existing industry to shift to these textiles but also to establish startups so that exports of the country may be enhanced. In this context, Textile Composite Materials Research Group (TCMRG) was established in 2013 to help the industry in R&D. The positive response of Industry encourages the NTU to establish National Center for Composite Materials (NCCM) in April 2018. The main activities of this center are to help existing industry through R&D, testing and prototype development as well as to establish new startups. It will help to channelize all the efforts in the best interest of Pakistan composite industry. The highly trained researchers of this center are also engaged in imparting education to BS Polymer Engineering, MS Advanced Materials and PhD Textile Engineering Students.
