On October 23, 2024, the Department of Fashion Design at the National Textile University (NTU) Karachi Campus hosted a one-day workshop titled "Crafting with Blocks." The hands-on workshop, focused on traditional block printing techniques, was supervised by Miss Hina Zehra, Lecturer in Fashion Design at NTU.
The session featured guest speaker Miss Urosha Vistro, a Textile Designer and Visual Arts Educator at Beaconhouse School System. Miss Vistro brought her extensive experience in textile design to the event, offering students valuable insights into the intricate art of block printing.
The workshop emphasized hands-on practice, allowing students to immerse themselves in the creative process of designing and printing patterns using handcrafted blocks. Participants learned the technical details of block printing, including fabric preparation, block carving, and pattern alignment, which are essential for mastering this traditional craft.
Students found the session interactive and engaging, enjoying the opportunity to explore their creativity while learning a traditional textile technique. The workshop provided a fun and dynamic learning environment, encouraging participants to experiment with colors, shapes, and patterns.
At the end of the session, a token of appreciation was presented to Miss Urosha Vistro by NTU Karachi Campus, in recognition of her valuable contribution to the workshop.
