About Us

  • The library was established in 1964 as “Institute of Textile Technology Library”, Lyallpur, at that time the library was located in main building of the institute comprising on one room only.
  • In 1965, the library renamed as “National College of Textile Engineering Library”.
  • In 1992, the library was shifted in new library block that comprised on one hall, one librarian office and one store with a corridor with collection of 9000 titles with a seating capacity of 100 students and was maintained by a close-shelf system.
  • In 2001, the library was converted in an open-shelf system and started automation process of the library material.
  • In 2002, the library was renamed as “National Textile University Library”, Faisalabad.
  • Upper two library halls and one more librarian office was constructed in 2003.
  • The library is fully carpeted and air-conditioned.
  • The Library has continuously been improved during this latest period, not only as a collection of books, but also as an instrument for the assistance of study and research. At present its collection regarding books, journals, manuscripts, thesis and other reading material is 20519 approximately including some very precious personal / special collections.
  • The total area of this building is 6000 sq. feet. It is a beautiful two storied building. It has big reading halls on the ground and the first floor, these have a seating capacity of approximately 300 readers. Besides these, there are many separate air-conditioned rooms and sections for readers. These air-conditioned rooms provide atmosphere conducive to serious studies and act as silence zones of the Library. The seating capacity of these rooms is about 50 readers.
  • To meet the challenges of modern research techniques in the 21st century, the facility of Internet, computer Lab and WiFi facility for searching of digital resources in library was started in 2004 along with 10 PCs. The work of library automation was started in October 2000. The processing of almost all the material have been completed in 2005.
  • Recently NTU Library has started data entry of serial publications that will give search approach to its volume and issue level. Moreover library has started a database of its newspaper index; a monthly publication of newspaper articles being published in various local and foreign newspapers.
  • A sum of Rs.3 million is allocated annually for library collection development.
  • The library is operated by an integrated library automation system namely “Library World” developed by Caspr, Inc., USA. Software is searchable under a number of categories like author, title, subject, heading, publishers, classification etc. Readers are supposed to consult the computerized catalogue for up-to-date information instead of manual catalogue, where OPAC terminals have been provided at ground and 1st floor with searching capabilities. Network access is available on several terminals at the library.
  • From 2011, the library bibliographic database is online and users can search the library resources through Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC).
  • The library has also the access of 11500 electronic journals and 40000 e-books through HEC digital library.
  • The library is subscribing 35 national and international scientific and technical journals and has a bound archive from 1918.
  • Photocopy and printing facility is also available within the library on nominal charges.
  • The library is a corporate member of The Textile Institute, UK since the year of 2010.
  • NTU library is also subscribing online bibliographic database namely “World Textiles” for researchers.
  • NTU Library has its collection in nine major national and international languages and different types like, print material, CDs, DVDs, Floppies, Video and Audio Cassettes and Manuscripts. Besides all these, we are searching new horizons to facilitate our readers through manual and electronic technologies.
