Department of Computer Science

The Department of Computer Science was setup with a vision to en-kindle some of the brightest technical minds of the country and equip them with all skills necessary to manage the clothing industry. The Department envisions producing successful graduates who will be capable of leading the fast faced paced changing scenarios of today’s apparel industry through intellect, innovation and values. Research and educational activities are conducted by proficient, devoted and well-qualified faculty and staff members having ample experience in various fields of Computer Science. An active Interaction with industry is the main feature of our Teaching Philosophy, Industrial Visits, internships, symposiums and participation in workshops and industrial exhibitions are frequently carried out for students learning.Department of Computer Science is also dynamically involved in providing consultancy services to the textile industry and other public sector organizations. Various national level projects were carried out with success by the department during recent years.

The article, "Pattern Classification of Dermoscopy Images: A Perceptually Uniform Model" has been published in Pattern Recognition, a top-ranked pattern recognition journal by Dr. Qaisar Abbas, Assistant Professor/Chairman at department of computer science of National Textile University, Faisalabad and four other collaborators.

In this research work, they examine and contribute the following points:

  • Multicomponent problem is considered as a vital problem, which is not explored in the past studies. To solve this problem, an effective pattern classification solution is presented by developing a new AdaBoost.MC multi-label machine learning algorithm.
  • An entirely automated system is developed, which has more sophisticated pattern classifier for dermoscopy images that focused more on color and textural properties of the lesion regions in a uniform color space derived from a color appearance model and making use of an advanced color distance measure.
  • It is also obvious in this pattern classification model to select optimal color and texture features (in a multiresolution analysis) to make the final classification decisions, which is entirely modeled the clinical CASH procedure.

Pattern Recognition is the official journal of the Pattern Recognition Society, this journal gives scientist an opportunity to share and expedite each other's work. This Society shares common research affiliated with pattern recognition, such as computer science, information theory, optical processing techniques, and other miscellaneous fields.

Project Title:A Perceptually-Oriented Approach for Melanoma Area Extraction from dermoscopy Images

Project Summary:The target of this project is to develop new technique(s) to overcome the difficulties faced in the melanoma area detection from dermoscopy images like; low contrast, hair removal and segmentation. The main focus of this project is contrast enhancement and hair removal in dermoscopy images to extract the melanoma area precisely with minimum error probability. In the first phase a perceptually oriented approach is developed to enhance the contrast of the dermoscopy images that improve the segmentation results with reduced error probability. Touch Bite will bring an innovation in Restaurants and Fooderies by allowing users to estimate their deals from different restaurants in accordance to their budget, smart orders for Home Delivery as well as live-tracking of their orders through google map. It will also facilitate customers for on-table orders by simply scanning QR Code of their table and place their Order from dynamically created Menu items of that Restaurant. It will also manage orders and billing for Management of Food Points as well as for their customers. Feedback, Live Chat and Customer Service evaluation and Music Selection will also be done. Hence a single app will centralize all the top fooderies to give more customer level satisfaction.

Project Title: Torpid bee (Student Behavior Monitoring in Smart Class using Facial Expression Recognition (FER))

Project Description:

The system uses the tools available in the smart class already like camera and by using Facial Expressions Recognition (FER) system, the system classifies the behavior of the overall class. FER systems are basically the systems which uses the images (preferably frontal face images) and by using machine learning techniques it classifies the expression of the person. Our system is concerned with monitoring the behaviors of the students during the learning period or the time of lecture. The system captures the frames from the live video of the camera crops the faces of the students and by using PCA for dimension reduction and Eigen vector technique to compare the expressions after the supervised training of the system and label the students as active, non-active or neutral behaviors. This system will automatically bother the students to concentrate more, after all they are being watched every moment. This system may be implemented for surveillance systems or even for the drivers to control accidents. For the time being our system is not real time we are working with frontal face images with the accuracy of 70% but in future we have planned to improve the classification technique and to move the system to the completely real time operations.

Project Title: Transcript Generating System

Project Description:

Transcript is an academic record that depicts the academic performance of an individual student throughout the years spent in the institution. Any system used for managing student’s academic record is referred to as transcript system. Till date, our institution National Textile University still uses the manual system to process result of the student. Our Project is NTU-Transcript Generating System that enables members of institution to register students and staff, to enter exam scores and view result. It provides the interface to the admin (Controller Examination) to manage result’s record automatically and admin can register students and staff, which is comparatively easy and adoptable method than the existing system. It reduces the risk of errors which is common mistake in the existing system. Teachers, that belong to the any department and have taken any course, can upload marks of their students by using provided dashboard and grade will automatically be calculated by the system. Head of each department will also be able to submit result and verify the result submitted by the teachers of his/her department. Head of each department can also lock and unlock the portal of lecturer. Students, those are enrolled in any degree and courses, can view semester’s result and final transcript.

This app will enable the parents to communicate with teachers and stay update about the activities of their child. Project Description:

Impossible Road Traps game is based on mixture concept of impossible track and trap game. Basically user move its car on thin track that is full of traps on different points. We introduced three types of control. User must maintain its health and follow track line and reach its end point under the time limit. Minimum number of respawn chances given to user to reach on its end position but must have enough coin to play the game. Every stage theme is different and have 10 levels of each stage. User can get coins in different ways like interacting with social media by liking our game page, sharing game or inviting friends to play this game by connecting on facebook. Google play services is also attached and user can maintain its leaderboard that is on Google play services. The game is uploaded on Play Store.

Our project is an android base application to automate the system of a blood bank Ali Zaib Foundation. Moreover we are connecting students of different institutions by providing a module in the app. The main objective of our project is to connect different people to make a network so that they can communicate to each other in time of any emergency. In Pakistan there are many blood banks working and serving the humanity. They are facing this problem that their system is manual. The main task of the blood banks is to receive the blood from different donor, test them for different blood groups and diseases and to maintain the database. Another problem they face is not the deficiency of the blood but to find the willing donor for donation at the right time. It takes a lot of manual work, available websites for searching blood are not very active in the region, wastage of time to go to blood bank centers if available blood not present, most of the times user have to wait in queue, users are not authenticated, many irritating or annoying calls or texts are received.

Project Title: Bus Tracking Application Notifier

Project Description:

Students of universities or colleges in developing countries face problems when they use pick and drop service of institutes. Students wait for a long time on bus stops. Mostly in harsh weather it’s tough to wait for bus. Often, bus arrive late or not arrive due to some reason. Therefore, students have to use personal conveyance after wasting their precious time. This students inconvenience can be avoided by launching a system that provide real-time detail of location and estimated arrival time of bus. Main objective of system is to notify students sometime before the arrival of bus. So, students move to their bus stops on time. Many time prediction systems have been developed that are implemented using Global Positioning System (GPS) and Global System for Mobile Communication for Real-Time Location. These systems require extra hardware cost for implementation. But often, institutes do not invest this money due to heavy budget. Hence, a low cost solution to this problem is required. For that reason, we developed a cost effective system for given problem that does not require any extra hardware cost. Instead of using an external GPS module we are using GPS of smart phones for real-time tracking. This application will notify registered students about schedule of bus. Every student will receive a notification of his/her respected bus arrival time. Fresh coming students who do not have buses route information can view all buses defined route. A report of bus schedule will be generated and send to transport officer. For time prediction of bus arrival, efficient and optimized algorithms are applied to this system to get arrival time accuracy. Number of test drives are done on specified routes under different conditions. After testing, the resulted time set as arrival time of bus.

Project Title: Keyword Extraction Analysis for the Generation of Metadata

Project Description:

The proposed approach is to extract the keywords from the metadata which is available freely, so that new researchers can find related research articles for their research. Among previous proposed approaches the citation proximity analysis was the best approach but due to unavailability of full text of research articles it has been replaced by the metadata of the research articles including authors list, abstract, title and keywords of the paper. Due to unavailability of the keywords, the concept of topic modeling has been used to develop proposed approaches. The proposed approaches are being tested on the data set of 20 research articles of different domains. It will help the researchers to find out related research articles on the basis of the generated keywords.
