Islamic Calligraphy Painting Workshop with Sir Saifullah Nafeesi

NTU-PMYDC Visual arts Society of School of Arts and Design (SOAD) successfully organized an Islamic Calligraphy Painting Workshop on October 28, 2025, featuring the renowned calligrapher Sir Saifullah Nafeesi.

The session began with an insightful demonstration by Sir Saifullah, who introduced students to the rich history and origins of Islamic calligraphy. He discussed the spiritual and artistic significance of the art form, highlighting its deep connection with Islamic culture and tradition.

Students were then guided through the tools and materials traditionally used in calligraphy, such as Qalam, brushes, colors, and suitable canvas preparation. Sir Saifullah also shared practical tips on posture, brush handling, and stroke techniques that bring harmony and balance to calligraphic compositions.

Following the demonstration, students had the opportunity to practice their own calligraphic pieces, applying the methods and principles they had just learned. The studio came alive with creativity as participants produced beautiful calligraphy artworks under Sir Saifullah’s guidance.

The workshop provided an enriching experience for all attendees, deepening their appreciation for Islamic art and encouraging them to continue exploring the aesthetic and spiritual dimensions of calligraphy.

The university extends its heartfelt thanks to Sir Saifullah Nafeesi for his time, expertise, and inspiring mentorship, and to all the students who participated with great enthusiasm.
